Second and Third-Year Internships

Second and Third-Year Internships

At The Aleit Academy, we believe that event management is best learned through a combination of theory and real-world experience. For this reason, practical workplace experience forms an integral part of our three-year Diploma in Event Coordination.

During their second and third year, the students’ move from classroom-based learning and introductory practical experience into structured internships within the events and hospitality industry. These internships allow students to apply the knowledge and skills developed during their studies in professional working environments.

The Internship Process

Students gain valuable experience and take on more responsibility as they progress through the programme.

Second Year

During second year, students complete two eight-week internship blocks. This marks an important move from supervised practical work into a professional workplace. Students are placed with suitable companies and organisations. Here, they gain first-hand experience of the daily demands of the events industry.

Third Year

During third year, students complete two ten-week internship blocks. These usually take place at the beginning and end of the academic year. At this stage, students must show greater independence, responsibility, professionalism, and leadership.

Industry Experience

The Aleit Academy works closely with industry partners to provide valuable experience in professional environments.

These placements complement each student’s studies and career interests. Opportunities may include:

  • Event companies
  • Venues
  • Hospitality businesses
  • Wedding and event coordinators
  • Corporate event teams
  • Other businesses within the events industry

Professional Expectations

Throughout each placement, students must maintain professional standards and complete their required hours and responsibilities. They also receive valuable feedback on their performance. Clear communication between the student, workplace, and Academy helps monitor progress and identify areas for further development.

Internships

What Students Experience

An internship offers a very different learning environment from the classroom. Students experience the pace, expectations, and responsibilities of the events industry. They also learn how to contribute within a professional team.

Depending on their placement, students may gain experience in:

  • Event planning and administration
  • Client communication
  • Supplier coordination
  • Venue operations
  • Décor and styling
  • Food and beverage operations
  • Guest management
  • Event logistics
  • Setup and breakdown
  • Budgets and timelines
  • Function sheets
  • On-site event coordination

Most importantly, students experience the complete event journey. This includes early preparation and the operational work happening behind the scenes.

They also discover that successful events require more than creativity. Important industry skills include:

  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Attention to detail
  • Clear communication
  • Teamwork
  • Problem-solving
  • Adaptability
  • Professionalism under pressure

By third year, students are encouraged to move beyond simply assisting. They begin taking ownership, anticipating next steps, and communicating confidently. They must also solve problems and demonstrate the maturity expected from someone preparing to enter the workplace.

Internships

Why Internships Form Part of the Course

The internship programme bridges the gap between classroom learning and professional experience.

Students learn the principles of event coordination during their studies. However, many professional skills can only develop through hands-on experience. Working on real events introduces students to clients, deadlines, budgets, suppliers, expectations, and operational challenges.

Internships allow students to apply their knowledge while building confidence and professional judgement. They can also explore different areas of the industry. This experience plays an important role in preparing students for employment.

By graduation, students have completed their studies and gained valuable industry experience. They understand workplace expectations and have worked alongside industry professionals.

Most importantly, students begin building a professional network before entering the job market.
