Life lessons 101 (9 Things You Should Keep In Mind)
As a student you are still learning many life lessons.
You still need to find out who you are and who you want to be.
We understand this completely, but it is very important to keep certain things in mind when working on those two things.
Here are a few things you should keep in mind when going through life.
1. Remember that positivity can go far:
Taking something on with the wrong attitude can cause you to not have the most enjoyable experience and without you knowing, it affects people around you.
Stop for one second and think about what you say, how you look (body language and facial expressions), and your actions.
2. Be a sponge:
Soak up everything you can!
Take advantage of your education and opportunities in life.
Remember that you are here to learn, and it is your responsibility to make sure you do.
Sometimes you forget that the people lecturing is guiding you, but you need to make sure you learn something.
Take it in, make notes, study after hours, do research and talk to other people to make sure you make the most of it.
3. Success requires hard work:
If you persevere and work hard you can accomplish things you never thought possible.
Success can’t be bought.
You have to put in the hours and the effort to become successful.
Remember that your parents and family are there to support you and they can help you to a certain point, but it is up to you to create your own opportunities and only you can make a success of something.
4. Kindness and respect go a long way:
Little acts of kindness will impact in more ways than you think.
If you try to smile at every person walking by you may make that person’s day a better one.
Stand up and greet everyone that crosses your path.
It shows respect, professionalism and that small gesture can create a friendship or that person can perhaps be a beneficial service provider to use in future.
5. It’s not all about you:
Learn to listen more than you speak, and it will help you keep things in perspective.
Give someone else the opportunity to voice their opinion as well.
They may help you to think once more before doing something you regret.
6. Your words matter:
Consider your words carefully.
Saying the wrong thing without thinking can bring about unwanted consequences.
Also remember to type an email and make sure you read it again before sending it.
You may just save yourself by removing that one exclamation from a sentence.
Words cut deep and can have a big impact in someone’s life without you realizing.
7. It is very important to be punctual:
Being on time means you are 5 minutes early.
Already applying this in your daily lives as a student will help you so much one day when you have to go for meetings or go to work.
Punctuality is seen as respectful and professional.
Being late can turn a positive meeting into a sour one.
8. Yes, people judge a book by its cover:
People will judge you on what you are wearing.
Making sure that you dress correctly, your hair is clean, and you have applied some make-up, as this will make a big impact.
You will be seen as professional and well-prepared.
Even if you are just going to class, you will possibly be walking into a lot of people that you will work with in future and they will judge your outfit if you look sloppy to have a sloppy personality as well.
9. To remember everything is impossible:
Make sure you listen and take notes.
Yes, a cellphone note is nice to have, but it is not professional to take out your cellphone in a meeting or in class to take down notes.
Get a diary or a notebook and pen and make notes on what is discussed.
This is very handy to go back to when you need to complete an assignment or a project, etc.
A to-do-list is also very important and can be so satisfying when you mark something as done.
